In an effort to help our readers get to know us and the bloggers behind our group, we conduct monthly interview highlighting one of our members. This month, we have Jameliah Brown from Brown on the Town!

  1. How did you become a food blogger? What is the theme of your blog/IG?

I came to Columbus to attend OSU after high school. During my time as a student, I began to notice all the different restaurants popping up on high street and started to try them out one by one. Eventually I expanded my food adventures to Short North and it continued to grow from there. I started following various bloggers on IG and realized I could share my experiences with others. Once I started Pharmacy school I got a lot of support from friends. We had a competition to see who could come up with the best name, and from that @Brown_OnTheTown was born.

  1. What is your favorite thing to cook for yourself or others?

I love to cook soul food. Fried fish is one of my favorite meals. I’m a huge fan of Fried catfish and Lake Erie yellow perch as well as collard greens, mac n cheese, and black eyed peas.

  1. What makes the Columbus food scene great? Or what would you change?

The variety of options in Columbus is endless. There’s a ton of traditional American places but also a lot of culture. I would like to see more soul food options.

  1. What restaurant(s) is at the top of your “must try” list?

I have not made it to Swensons Drive it yet or Short North Goodyboy. I’m a huge brunch fan so goodyboy will probably come 1st.

  1. What’s (and where) the most memorable meal/dish you had recently?

A lot of Tapas style restaurants are starting to pop up in cbus. Recently I tried Fireproof and was really blown away by their tapas and cocktails. I usually don’t like the fatty texture of Pork Belly, but theirs was outstanding. The Waygu beef dumplings, grilled artichokes, and skirt steak were amazing as well.

  1. Give us the inside scoop — what’s your favorite happy hour, hole in the wall, or hidden gem in Columbus?

My favorite hidden gem is probably Laughlin’s bakery on 2nd. They have so much good stuff. Some of my favorites are their pizza, both pepperoni and potato, also their macaroons and plum cake.

  1. What is your favorite locally made food product?

I really love all of the breweries in Columbus. I’m not a fan of beer at all, but I have found that sours or fruity flavors actually taste good. My favorite is probably Platform, its like a hidden gem, down on N. 6th st. They release a lot of unique flavors and have something for everyone. They currently have Smore’s Yammy right now, perfect for Fall.

  1. Some of us are not full-time bloggers. If you are not, what is your “real” job? 

I am currently a Pharm D. student. I work as a Pharmacy Intern at Select Specialty Hospital in Victorian Village. I am very passionate about patient care, affordability of medications, and medication therapy management.

  1. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!

I am originally from Sandusky Ohio, America’s Rocking Roller Coast! RIDE ON! (I love Cedar Point and Roller coasters, I visited Kings Island for the 1st time ever this summer)
