Did you know that CbusFoodBloggers consists of over 50 different bloggers/instagrammers? Some of us you may already
stalk follow, and others you haven’t yet had the chance to meet! In an effort to help our readers get to know us and the bloggers behind our group, we conduct monthly interview highlighting one of our members. This month, we have Sophia Marinucci from Columbus Food Troll!
- How did you become a food blogger? What is the theme of your blog/IG?
Well, I have always been a big foodie. I remember the special meals I shared with my family and friends growing up, and I strongly believe that good food brings people together and makes memories that last forever! I was always that person to sneak a snapshot (or 10, because angles) when the food seemed like it was worth a photo. And after years of my camera roll consisting of 80% food pics, my friends and family finally just gave me that little push of support that I needed to get this account going! As for the name “troll”, I know there are other meanings out there in society these days. But to me, it is an expression that I’ve always used when wanting to explore, try new things, and have fun! The theme of my account is to just capture pure art in the form of food one instagram photo at a time!
- What is your favorite thing to cook for yourself or others?
Well, whenever I’m not eating out I’m cooking healthy stuff at home. I keep it pretty simple, chicken, salad, potatoes, rice! As for what I like to bake? That’s a whole different story! Give me a cookie sheet, cookie ingredients, and a ton of candy mix-ins and I will bake up a storm filled with all kinds of cookie creations!
- What makes the Columbus food scene great? Or what would you change?
The food scene in Columbus is on point! There are so many different types of cuisines all around Columbus that offer different atmospheres and flavors to accommodate to all! I love the growth of the food scene here and I honestly think it just keeps getting better and better! I feel like the restaurants in Columbus listen to what the people want and they definitely deliver and exceed expectations.
- What restaurant(s) is at the top of your “must try” list?
Ugh! There are so many! But if I had to choose one, it would be Watershed Kitchen and Bar. Just from trolling pictures online, not only does the food and menu look awesome but the inside looks beautiful and has an upscale distillery vibe with greenery throughout the restaurant. Definitely a place I would love to check out soon!
- What’s (and where) the most memorable meal/dish you had recently?
When it comes to the most memorable dish I’ve had recently, it would have to be the pizza I got from The Market Italian Village. It was truly breath taking and out of this world. I went there for their “No Menu Monday” special, where their head chef Tyler hand wrote an entire menu full of unique dishes that was totally mind blowing. The pizza we got had bresaola beef, caramelized onion, confit garlic, and cheese that monks made out of beer! There were even little flower looking things garnished all throughout! So amazing! I totally recommend going there any day of the week, but their No Menu Monday special is such a cool experience, definitely worth checking out!
- Give us the inside scoop — what’s your favorite happy hour, hole in the wall, or hidden gem in Columbus?
Favorite happy hour is currently Goody Boy! Half off everything besides entrees! (Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm) Which is pretty incredible! They have a wide selection of food items on their menu, between shareables, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches, you’re bound to want everything especially when it’s half the price!
- What is your favorite locally made food product?
I absolutely LOVE pattycake bakery! They handcraft all of their desserts using vegan, primarily organic, and 100% natural ingredients! They do not use any trans fats or animal products, and their desserts seriously taste AND look amazing! I’ve had many sweets from different places in my life time, and this place is truly one of a kind! They offer cupcakes, cookies, granola, muffins, and daily rotating cake flavors, and it is all wonderful!
- Some of us are not full-time bloggers. If you are not, what is your “real” job?
Teacher during the day and blogger by night! As much as I love trolling around eating all the foods, I also love being able to work with little kiddos. Being able to guide, support, and watch their minds grow as they learn is a very rewarding experience!
- Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
As much as I love food, I also love health and fitness. I like being active and enjoy working out. I am a huge foodie, but I typically balance my day with “healthy” meals so that I can troll all the fun foods when the time comes! I actually did some bodybuilding a couple years ago and definitely plan to get back into it again soon!
