Did you know that CbusFoodBloggers consists of over 40 different bloggers/instagrammers? Some of us you may already
stalk follow, and others you haven’t yet had the chance to meet! In an effort to help our readers get to know us and the bloggers behind our group, we conduct monthly interview highlighting one of our members. This month, we have Natalie Brehm from Are You Kitchen Me?!
- How did you become a food blogger? What is the theme of your blog/IG?
I started my blog, www.AreYouKitchenMe.com a few years ago when I wanted to start eating healthier. Unfortunately, I got swept up in the “clean eating” craze and spiraled into some unhealthy eating behaviors. Now, I am shifting focus and opening up about mental health, balanced eating, and having fun with food! It’s the most authentic my blog has ever been and I’m loving it!
- What is your favorite thing to cook for yourself or others?
I love surprising people with plant-based foods! There’s something about people being stoked about veggies and beans that really gets me going. Recently, I blew a friend away with some simple grilled green beans because he’d only ever had canned!
- What makes the Columbus food scene great? Or what would you change?
Every week, I open my eyes and find a new plant-based restaurant or option. I love seeing places doing Vegan Mondays (here’s lookin’ at you Hadley’s and Oddfellows!) but I’d love to see even more places jump on the plant-wagon.
- What restaurant(s) is at the top of your “must try” list?
I keep drooling over pictures of Dough Mama but haven’t made it there yet! You’re teasing me with all the pics, Hollen!!
- What’s (and where) the most memorable meal/dish you had recently?
Hands down, the Brussels sprouts at Rockmill. Oh. My. Lawwwwd. They’re unbelievably crispy, sweet, mustard-y, and everything I want in my life. I know they’re just a side but seriously I could make an entire meal of them. The best I’ve ever had.
- Give us the inside scoop — what’s your favorite happy hour, hole in the wall, or hidden gem in Columbus?
Platform Brewing can be legitimately difficult to find, but that’s part of what makes it a hidden gem! I love that they have rotating food vendors and support small business pop ups. Oh, and that rooftop patio view? Everything.
- What is your favorite locally made food product?
That’s such a tough one!! It’s a toss-up between Crazy Richard’s (hi Kimmy!), Dan the Baker bread, and Shagbark corn tortilla chips. If I HAD to choose, well… I’d eat peanut butter every dang day.
- Some of us are not full-time food bloggers. If you are not, what is your “real” job?
While you’ll find me cooking up a storm and eating every meal at Northstar on the weekends, during the week I’m a Data Services Coordinator for a large local nonprofit. That’s right, spreadsheet nerd over here!!
- Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
I quit dancing cold tofurkey after 17 years of dedicated practice. A lot of people ask if I miss it, but I truly believe that food is art and writing a blog has become my new form of expression!
